Dining

  • Hang the bottom 30–36 in (76–91 cm) above the tabletop with an 8 ft (2.4 m) ceiling. Add 3 in (7.5 cm) for every extra foot of ceiling.
  • Width: room length + width in feet = pendant width in inches. A 12 × 14 ft room suits a fixture around 26 in (66 cm) across.
  • Center it on the table, not the room. The table is the anchor.

Kitchen island

  • Sloped ceiling over the door? Use a hang-straight adapter and measure clearance from the fixture's lowest point.

Bedside

  • Hang the bottom 30–36 in (76–91 cm) above the mattress, about 20 in (51 cm) above the nightstand.
  • Center it over the nightstand, or 12 in (30 cm) in from the edge of the bed.
